A Reluctant Vegan: Tips for Getting Started with a Plant-Based Diet
Many of us make resolutions at the start of the new year with the goal to improve our lives. Have you ever considered making a plant-based resolution? As Vermonters, we know that sustainable, healthy practices are invaluable to leading a fulfilling life. We can all positively affect our health, as well as the world around us, by including more plant-based meals in our diets.
Supporting Reproductive Liberty
The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade this year has signaled our need to reinforce our support of reproductive liberty. Whether you choose to be a parent, or not, we support your right to make your own health care decisions. Your well-being is our priority.
Member Allie Breyer (32) recently spoke out on social media about her journey to undergo an elective tubal ligation (sterilization.) In sharing her story, we hope to spread awareness about reproductive paths available to our members.
Case Managers' Support In Sickness and In Health
For 30 years, Jim and Lyn Desmarais have been sharing their lives in marriage. That partnership became even more important in 2019 when Jim was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Lyn became his primary caregiver. As they've coped with disease, Blue Cross Case Manager Tess Thomas has become an integral part of their lives as a partner in wellness.
A Reminder for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Green Mountains of Vermont have transformed to feature bright shades of red and yellow foliage. And as the Halloween season brews, black, orange, and purple begin to fill our neighborhoods. But it’s another color that comes to our minds this time of year - pink.
Taking Climate Action to Improve Our Health
Climate change is happening in Vermont and the trends for hotter summers, warmer winters, and more frequent storms are expected to continue in the future.
Did you know that climate action can positively impact your mental and physical health? Certain climate actions can result in “co-benefits,” or added benefits above and beyond a more stable climate. These actions include weatherization, alternative transportation, and community action.
A day on set at Wagner College
Wagner College is a frequent host to film and television shoots. On June 13, 2019, Wagner welcomed the cast and crew for Judd Apatow's upcoming film starring Pete Davidson to film scenes in Foundation Hall. Knowing that they were working at an active educational institution, members of the production generously invited students to spend the day on set.
Behind the scenes of filming at Wagner College
If Wagner College were an actor with an IMDB profile, its “Known For” section would include movies like “School of Rock" and television series like “Law & Order Special Victims Unit.” But how did Wagner become a sought-after filming location?
A New Layer: Digital Art Design Blog
“New shape, new layer,” my high school digital art teacher would say over and over and over again because we were stubborn and most of us never grasped the concept behind the words. In Adobe Photoshop, it’s crucial for the user to create new layers for each individual aspect of a design. The layers are the building blocks. As someone who has now studied design in both a university and professional setting, I understand the concept. Back then, however, I created new layers whenever I was reminded to do so.
DonorsChoose to send PS90 students to the Wagner College Planetarium
Claire Chatinover is a first-time teacher to a fifth grade class at PS 90 in Coney Island. In the midst of stressful New York State testing earlier this year, Ms. Chatinover wanted nothing more than to give her students something fun and stress-free to look forward to.
To do so, she knew she needed to get creative. Popular within the teaching community, DonorsChoose.org hosts education-based projects that require funds. While projects are not always a success, Ms. Chatinover's first attempt was funded within a month.
